Is your firm in desperate need of a turnaround? Are you facing a dramatic change in your company’s profit margin due to poor management? Is the world-wide economic depression causing you to rethink your corporate strategy? Is there any way to SAVE your firm and ensure a HEALTHY FUTsURE?
With globally connected companies like Lehman Bros., Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac collapsing and countless others being sold for pennies like Merrill Lynch and Washington Mutual, the signs of a failing global economy are clear. And just because you think your company is safe for now, it is only a matter of time before you, too, could be facing the dismal returns and long road to BANKRUPTCY and FAILURE. |

James 2:14-25
“In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.” |
|
|
|
Take action and bring the focus back onto the wellness of
your firm and revive your falling figures! |
Take the lessons the Lord has imparted to us through the Bible and create a
plan for your company’s future success – preparing yourself for the
eventual upswing in the economy. |
| |
Genesis 11:6
Proverbs 21:5
“The plans of the diligent lead to profit as surely as haste leads to poverty.” |
|
|
|
| Have faith that the economy will change for the better and that your firm will be positioned for that success. But act, because without action, success cannot be attained. Learn the lesson from Jesus himself who believed that vision and feedback, or faith, in his terms, is useless without action, or deeds. We can find in the book of James how it was strongly emphasized that faith without deeds is considered dead. Chapter 2 verse 20 reads “You foolish man, do you want evidence that faith without deeds is useless?,” thereby giving us an example, rather a proof of this in the likes of Abraham and how his faith in God worked perfectly with his actions when he offered his only son, Isaac, to the altar. He had the vision for God’s plan for him, the information about God’s character and perfected it with his action by completely trusting God and obeying his commands. |
| How can the ancient laws of the Bible teach us how to save our corporations? |
| The laws of the Lord govern us every day. We are but His servants in every action and every breath. In order to succeed, we must follow His teachings and heed the lessons He has imparted to us through his great book – the Bible. I have made many mistakes in my life that have led to failure. I have fallen many times because I did not know to heed the teachings in the Bible and used my own intellect and experience instead. It was a hard lesson for me to learn, but I know it well: spiritual laws overtake the secular – every time. I cannot take back the mistakes that I made in the past. But what I can do is learn from them, and share the little wisdom I have gained to help you avoid making the same missteps. Here are two lessons I learned which taught me to heed the words of our Lord: |
Lesson #1
I have made the mistake of “sleeping with the devil” in that I, before I learned better, partnered with people of low scruples. I was BURNED. And this always occurs if you go to bed with the devil – remember the lesson learned in the Bible through the story of Samson and Delilah?
In the book of Judges, Delilah was bribed by the Philistines to betray the weakness of Samson. Samson was in love with Delilah, unaware of the harm she had betrayed. Sampson knew Delilah was somehow tempted and lied to her three times to keep her from harming him, but eventually she learned. And upon discovering his secret, Delilah immediately betrayed him to the Philistines. “Then the Philistines seized him, gouged out his eyes and took him down to Gaza. Binding him with bronze shackles, they set him to grinding in the prison (16 v. 21).” |
| The lesson I learned from this that I can impart to others: Do not sleep with the devil or you will have nightmares! |
Lesson #2
I learned a very hard lesson when I was young and did not know to be patient. I worked in haste and often failed to listen to the Bible. I learned that making decisions in haste without trusting the Lord will ALWAYS LEAD ONE DOWN THE PATH TO DISASTER. This is a lesson we can learn directly from Jesus Christ.
Jesus, because He knew all things, was able to clearly see that timing was crucial to all choices. When he knew about his death, He avoided the places where His enemies would capture Him; instead he waited for the perfect time. “After this, Jesus went around in Galilee, purposely staying away from Judea because the Jews there were waiting to take his life...” “Jesus told them, "The right time for me has not yet come; for you any time is right. The world cannot hate you, but it hates me because I testify that what it does is evil. You go to the Feast. I am not yet going up to this Feast, because for me the right time has not yet come." Having said this, he stayed in Galilee.” |
| The lesson I learned from this that I can impart to others: There is a time to be born and a time to die. Correct timing is everything. |
| |
John 7:1-9
Romans 5:6-8
Ecclesiastes 3:1-8
“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven” |

| Corporations are like the body – you can only attain health if all of the respective pieces are working in harmony. It is important to keep your body healthy and well. It is the same for corporations. You must keep your corporate body healthy and well for it to succeed and survive. It was my lot in life to not realize this important distinction until too late. I failed in having not followed the medical principles in running a corporation and got into trouble. It was my mistake to rely on only my own intellect and experience again. And here is one of the important lessons I learned from listening to the wisdom of doctors and health providers: |
Lesson #3
Acquisition binge can cause indigestion. Over-eating or bingeing is detrimental to one’s health. Similarly, over-acquisition can cause corporate indigestion such as over-leveraging, integration difficulties, cultural misfits etc. While fast growth through acquisition is a thrilling experience in running businesses, it also holds much more risks than meets the eye. When the company is in trouble, some CEOs also go on a shopping spree – acquisition. It is more glamorous and exciting than trying to fix mundane turnaround issues back in the office. Rapid acquisition done in haste with inadequate homework, wrong timing, egoistic reasons and impatience for success can result in calamity. |
| The lesson I learned from this that I can impart to others: You are what you eat, meaning you must be in the “pink of health” before you take on an expansion. |
| Based on these and many others of my varied experiences, I formulated 101 secular and spiritual principles to help you avoid repeating my mistakes and failing during this crucial turn in the economy. Just like a body, a company can become ill and even die. In this, the second great depression, many companies are falling sick and may or may not be able to survive. There are more sick companies than healthy ones. |
| Corporate Wellness: Spiritual and Secular Principles in Corporate Turnaround and Transformation. |
| What can these secular and spiritual principles teach us about Corporate Wellness? |
| My name is Dr. Teng, and I am known as the “Turnaround CEO of Asia.” I have authored such best-selling books as "Corporate Turnaround: Nursing a sick company back to health” and “Corporate Turnaround: Global Perspective” and I have made mistakes that have led me down the path to failure. I want to share with you the mistakes that I have made and give you the tools to keep your firm from becoming one of the “dead” during this economic downturn. These 101 principles can provide you with insight on a myriad of management missteps and failures, including: |
 |
Identifying a diseased rat in your ranks |
 |
Marketing for your consumers – not yourself |
 |
Knowing your customers – and your competitors |
 |
Planning for great corporate health |
|
| Companies in this recession will only succeed if they are in the pink of health and playing at their “top game.” As a manager or CEO, it is up to you to guide the firm and make sure that this minimum level of operation is maintained during this extremely difficult economy. And if you do not, surely your competitors will – and they will eat your lunch! You must arm yourself with the tools for success – and my 101 principles can help you on this path, using the enlightening teachings of our Lord, the medical community, and the hard-knocks of corporations that I have experienced. |
| What makes this book unique? |
| Each principle is examined in detail from two distinct perspectives. By addressing each principle in this manner, these high-level leadership principles, although learned through a lifetime of tough experiences, can be boiled-down to the core and understood by even the most inexperienced manager. And by understanding each principle from both perspectives, one can put a sharp-edge on each and apply them more strategically than ever in your own corporate situation. It should come as no surprise that these principles are: Spiritual and Medical. |
| What can we learn from the spiritual leadership of God? |
| Specific teachings of God have been highlighted in this book, helping you understand where God can help us lead our corporations better. There is a strong parallel between physical, spiritual and fiscal health, and God can help us understand this connection – and lead us to success. |
| |
Matthew 6:21
For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. |
|
|
|
| What can we learn from the medical community about corporate health? |
Medical terminology is something everyone understands. By using analogies from the world of medicine, we can put a new perspective on a situation and understand it more fully. To make the complicated and sometimes sensitive subject of corporate wellness more understandable and help one to grasp the importance, the use of medical analogies is the perfect tool.
The book’s 101 principles are broken down into easy-to-understand medical metaphors we are all familiar with, identifying the ‘Five-Stage’ Corporate Wellness Process in terms of the health of a body. These principles for wellness of a corporation are based on my extensive experience as a turnaround CEO and a manager. Because of this, I have presented the principles in the clear and concise ‘Five-Stage’ process: |
 |
Prevention |
 |
Diagnosis |
 |
Treatment |
 |
Recovery |
 |
Strengthening |
|
| Is this book applicable to the Asian culture? |
The principles contained in this book are applicable to any and all corporate situations, but there is special applicability to corporations in the Asian culture. I am an Asian and have worked in the Asian corporate culture for 18+ years as a CEO in all forms of corporations and businesses. I have seen it all in my time running operations all over 50 countries around the world and managing 1,000+ staff teams. And I have learned what it takes to ensure the health and wellbeing of corporations.
I built my successful career by understanding these principles and bringing them to bear in the difficult situations in the multiple industries, different cultures and different sized companies I have led. Because of my extensive experiences, I am considered by my peers as an expert on corporate turnaround and transformation. I have put all of that experience and knowledge into this book – giving you an edge no matter what your corporate situation may be. |
| Why would I share my secrets with you? |
No matter how you look at it, our world is connected. Companies are failing left and right during this great economic downturn of the century. I do not want this to be you! My goal is for you to succeed so that we may all succeed and get the economy back on the uptick.
By coupling the corporate terminology and the medical metaphors, this book is able to share a whole new perspective on the wellness concerns of any firm. Just listen to some of the endorsements which the book has received: |

“God wants us to be successful in business and He has shown us the way through His Word. Dr Mike Teng has very cleverly shown us how.”
Boyd Au – Founder and former Executive Chairman, Enzer Corporation Ltd. |

Dr. Naomi Dowdy – International Speaker and Author of 'Moving On & Moving Up in the Marketplace' |
 |
“Dr. Teng's writing is dynamite! His Business Principles 101 coupled with comparable uses of the same principles in the Bible show an in-depth understanding of the needs of today's management from the small guy selling hot-dogs all the way to the CEO on Wall Street.”
Greg Eck – Specialist in Automated Natural Language Processing |
 |
“In this global financial crisis corporations are convulsing. Cancerous corruption is being uncovered. And once thriving companies are now on life support. Dr. Michael Teng's Corporate Wellness is just what the doctor ordered.
The word "corporation" is from the Latin word that means "body." So Dr. Michael's Teng's "wellness" metaphor is certainly apt. A good corporation is not a "well-oiled machine"-- a metaphor borrowed from an antiquated industrial age. Corporations are not machines, but organisms.
They used to say in the computer industry, "junk in, junk out." In other words, the problem is not with the computer, it's with the computer programmer--the human factor. Mike Teng reminds us that a corporation is healthy only to the degree that the people who operate it are healthy. Corporate Wellness reminds us that without a healthy body of living, breathing, individuals you'll never have a growing, productive and profitable corporation.”
Wayne Hilsden – Senior Pastor, King of Kings Community, Jerusalem |
 |
"A very useful book from Dr. Mike Teng that will benefit many marketers and business executives in this ever changing business environment. Timely principles that are practical and relevant in helping many companies to identify and steer of pitfalls before they occur. A compelling read."
KC Loh – President, Marketing Institute of Singapore |
 |
“God is very much interested in how we run our businesses - for profit and purpose (divine). You will find powerful principles for a corporate turnaround. Read it, engage it and be transformed.”
